The qualified Security Technician has strong communication and customer service skills and a professional appearance and attitude. Responsibilities primarily include configuring, installing and maintaining physical security systems, including facilities access control and surveillance solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience in the above-mentioned security technologies as well as basic computer and networking skills, with the ability to troubleshoot problems within the client's environment. They install, configure, and troubleshoot the computers, as well as all other applications and printers, to keep them at optimum performance. This is a very hands-on career that frequently requires the individual to respond to urgent requests and help individuals face to face; some travel will also be required.

A strong background in security technology and proficiency with the Windows operating system is required. Must have very strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as technical problem-solving skills. Some lite programming, Microsoft Office, anti-virus, and network security experience or education are preferred.

A major requirement for all ATG technicians is to provide outstanding value to all customer engagements, cost-effectively and efficiently implementing new technology and maintaining existing systems. This includes remaining vigilant for opportunities to improve the customer's environment by recommending products and services that will enhance their productivity and profitability.

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • The Security Technician is responsible for complete installation and servicing of security systems, including access control, alarm panel, entry systems and video surveillance systems.
  • Troubleshoot on location to determine issues with security systems.
  • Communicate with customer to explain repair approach.
  • Complete and submit reports and paperwork related to installations and repairs.
  • Perform additional security installation preparation and workshop equipment testing duties.
  • Grow clients and communicate to Account Manager by determining new opportunities.
  • Setup desktop computers and peripherals and test network connections.
  • Install and test desktop software applications and internet browsers.
  • Test computers to ensure proper functioning of computer systems.
  • Train end users on usage of computer hardware and software.
  • Develop and manage effective professional working relationships with contractor personnel, co-workers and clients.
  • Adhere to policies as per corporate manuals and directives.
  • Learn fundamental operations of commonly used software, hardware, and other equipment.
  • Follow standard OpsCenter operating procedures; accurately log all activity using online tracking system.
  • Enforce all ATG IT policies.
  • Become familiar with available help resources; stay updated on client technology changes or problems.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certificate from college or technical school or 2 years equivalent related work experience.
  • CompTIA A+ (preferred)
  • Ability to complete reports for customers and company required documents.
  • Knowledge of security systems including alarm panel and access control systems, entry systems and video systems.
  • The Security Technician must possess a strong mechanical aptitude and experience using power tools. Must also be skilled in functions related to installations including running signal cables between walls, sub-ceilings, buildings and can lift equipment.
  • Must be able to follow and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Submit to and pass background and drug test per Company policy.
  • Experience with any of the following access systems, cameras and servers, is a plus; Honeywell ProWatch, NetAxis, WinPak, S2, Brivo, IEI, ExacqVision, Hirsch Velocity, Kantech, Pelco, Salient, Samsung, Arecont, Axis, DoorKing, Aiphone.

General Requirements:

  • CompTIA Security + certification must be up-to-date or obtained within six months after hire date.
  • Friendly presence and helpful attitude; good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to provide technical support over the phone; good phone skills, professional demeanor, previous customer service experience strongly desired.
  • Good problem-solving skills; ability to visualize a problem or situation and think abstractly to solve it.
  • Ability to handle constantly changing flow of traffic; remain productive during slow times, be able to multitask effectively during busy times, exercise patience and professionalism during stressful situations.
  • Ability to work responsibly with or without direct supervision.
  • Working knowledge of common operating systems and software applications.
  • Adequate familiarity with equipment found in ATG client locations.


Compensation is commensurate with experience, capabilities and contribution to the company's success, and is negotiated individually. This is an Hourly, NON-EXEMPT position.
